ALL about anne boleyn - henry's second wife
Anne was born to Thomas Boleyn and Lady Elizabeth Howard in Norfolk, England. In 1514 she moved to Paris where she was a lady-in-waiting for Queen Claude of France. Anne became well educated and studied French.
In 1521, she returned to England and joined her sister Mary Boleyn at the court of Henry VIII as a maid of Catherine of Aragon. Her sister was one of Henry’s mistresses. Henry courted Anne, but she refused to be his mistress; she told Henry he must marry her if he wanted to continue the relationship.
As the Catholic Church would not allow Henry to divorce his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, Henry created his own church, the Church of England. This allowed him to divorce Catherine and marry Anne.
Anne gave birth to a daughter, Elizabeth, in 1533. However, her marriage to Henry was not smooth, as she spent lots of his money and tried to change his religious and political views. Anne was accused of adultery (cheating on Henry) and was beheaded at the Tower of London on 19th May 1536.
